Your Brain on Yoga!

How can yoga help you relax and think more clearly? The answer is simple to understand and even more clear once you start practicing! Yoga combines conscious breath with movement and that instantly relaxes the nervous system and makes  you feel better! Want to know more?

Breathing and movement combine and construct important pathways that may not have formed in some individuals because of excessive stress. Trauma at any time of life, even from back in childhood, can interrupt the immune, emotional, nervous and hormonal systems from behaving the way they should. All 4 systems that are impacted at once when illness, trauma and fear are present. Nothing happens in one system that does not affect the other 3.

In your everyday life, stress can build up to the point where it's harder to think clearly and remember things. Have you ever forgotten your phone number or been unable to form an appropriate response even when you know that material by heart? Those are very tangible, present moment examples of how stress impacts the brain which in turn effects your productivity, metabolism, and even exacerbates destructive habits as a release or escape.

Yoga is a healing force for the physical and emotional body. Moving your diaphragm with breath is the first step to shifting from anxiety and fear to relaxed and clear, which is WHY we are told to breathe deeply. Acetylcholine which is produced in skeletal and muscle movement has a calming influence, is crucial in forming memory and reduces inflammation as well. It is released by the vagus nerve through abdominal breathing and the combination of breathing in sync with movement.

This is why yoga works!
