Yoga Nidra for Spring Eclipses in Freeport & South Portland

I will lead two Yoga Nidras this spring, March 28th at Freeport Yoga Company and April 25th at Breathing Room in South Portland. This deep practice of connecting with your inner wisdom and resilience pairs with a Solar Eclipse March 20th and a Lunar Eclipse April 4th. Gallery style readings followed by guided yoga sleep meditation support the changes eclipses bring.

Here's a bit about the practice itself and why I chose to lead Yoga Nidra.

My very first yoga nidra was amazing because there was an immediate action and effect of my intention directly after the session. This kind of thing doesn't happen every time you participate, however you will get what you need from a yoga nidra practice on any given day. There is no wrong way to do this, no postures, no specific breath work, just you following my voice.

This deep relaxation also known as yogic sleep, moves you into a place of ease for healing, release, and creativity. 

Have ever woken up with your best ideas or refreshed after being sick or under a great deal of strain? Do you ever experience lucid dreams where you are somewhat conscious and can control the content of that experience? These are some comparisons I make to yoga nidra. Guided into a state of total relaxation, your body, mind and spirit have a change to truly restore, heal and also manifest. 

Participating in yoga nidras was so incredible and important for me while living in Florida that I trained to lead this experience for you.  I attended yoga nidra regularly on Friday afternoons at Yogani Studios. Annie Okerlin, the studio owner, is trained in one form of nidra called irest. Veterans and their families attend yoga nidra to help with post traumatic stress syndrome and other healing and recovery taking place.  Seeing our men and women of service and their families return again and again was so inspiring. Meanwhile I was having my own awakenings, manifestations of my heart's desires, and journeys without ever leaving the comfort of  my yoga mat.

In a yoga nidra, I will generally help you set up in a comfortable position with yoga props like bolsters so you can tune inward without any discomfort for at least 30 minutes.  During that time, your meditation is guided by me though you follow your own sensations, intention, and awareness. Often your consciousness will be altered as you enter full relaxation. An hour of yoga nidra is said to equal 4 hours of sleep, so if you're feeling exhausted this can refresh you. 

When I look in the mirror after this practice, my eyes show what I've accomplished. Brighter and more alive, truly.
